London Canals

£65.00

An original painting from the hike up harp hill collection.

Cold mornings. Coffee brewing in the moka, the sound of kindling cracking on last nights remaining red coals. The smell of wood filling the boat. Coots chirping and water rippling quietly as they go by. Dressing gown and wellies to fill the coal bucket outside. Morning mist mixing with chimney smoke as you look down the canal. Dew on the rooftop flowerbed. The sound of runners footsteps on the towpath. The wave of warm opening the front door to go back in. The dogs snoring on the sofa. Walking the dog on the towpath a few runners go by but it still feels peaceful. Boat neighbours are much friendlier than land dwellers they smile and say hi (a novelty on land in London!) it feels like the countryside. Serene and calm. Sirens in the distance remind you you’re in the city but there’s a smug sort of peacefulness knowing you’ve created your little slice of country life whilst the busy city carries on around. Walking down the steps of the towpath off the busy streets is like turning a switch between the 2 worlds coexisting in one city.
