Homegrown was my first solo exhibition, where I presented 10 large and 20 small works (The How Series) on paper made during the eighteen months following my father’s passing. The paintings grew from a period of grief, healing and renewed curiosity about the world around me, using colour, rhythm, repetition and spontaneous mark-making to translate places, sensations and memories into abstract form. The exhibition was staged in the studio above dad’s music shop, Aroundabout Sound, in a space that my family and I renovated ourselves.
