Acrylic, oil and pencil on paper, 8″ x 10″, 2020.
He was new today—
then again, it seems they always are.
Clipboards sent to test me;
one by one, they come—they go.
By now Im well rehearsed,
questions all too familiar
pain set to repeat;
endless scratching underneath.
I peeled away the mask
and offered up my soul
in all its agonising scrutiny.
He pulled from me—
line by line, scar by scar.
Each character in all its parts;
chaotic and confused.
How to do it again.
Another stranger; so rarely a friend.”
“I’m in love with two men at once, it’s tearing me apart. One is twice my age and makes me feel the passion and the need and the excitement of my life. One is just a few years older and makes me feel safe and loved and homely. I don’t know how to choose.”
