Emma Howell

New Mexico

£60.00

An original painting from the 81 Wild collection.

“Its nickname is “The Land of Enchantment”, which I think is beautiful and honest. Despite being a relatively poor and unknown state, we’re the 5th largest in the US, and home to beautiful wilderness and people. Albuquerque is home to the Sandia mountains — Sandia means watermelon in Spanish, and the mountains were so named because in the setting sun the granite looks quite pink. New Mexico is home to both mountains and deserts, so the climate can be quite hot and dry in the deserts and cool and forested in the mountains. We have a large bird refuge in the south part of the state, and many birdwatchers come to New Mexico to watch the migrations.
