Emma Howell

His Faded Yellow Sofa

£380.00

An original painting from the four year wild fire collection.

Acrylic, soft pastel and pencil on paper, 15″ x 22″, 2020.

My overriding memories of those feelings are green, green, green. So many hues and shades of green. Dark, light, sage, thistle, tree, leaf, nettle, grass, oh what a wonderful rolling vista. We may get blasé about how green our home is, but spend a year in a dry country and you will find the colour green brings tears to your eyes.

And just so, through the tangle of college politics and ancient history options, I found myself, more often than not, ensconced in what became my seat on his faded yellow sofa.”

Smell of dew and coffee is in the air. Reflection from gleaming towers and dreaming spires bathe the scene in a light golden hue. Friends and lovers stroll down the twisted streets in search for a second breakfast and the route home. A wonderful evening was had.”

Everything is so beautiful here, the way the light comes through the trees early in the morning, there’s a big herd of all white cows that stand out against the dark green gorse, the way the colours change so dramatically with the seasons. There’s lapwings and deer and of course lots of donkeys! Me and mum walked across the heath and through the trees to get to the sea, where the bluebells touched the water and we sat and had a flask of coffee.”
