As We Approached Iranja

£430.00

An original painting from the four year wild fire collection.

Acrylic, soft pastel and pencil on paper, 18″ x 24″, 2020.

Today we took a trip to a beautiful island called Nosy Iranja. The boat ride from Ambataloka was absolutely insane, we were literally flying across the water trying not to be thrown overboard! Despite the roughness of the sea I really enjoyed the boat journey, it was so exciting. As we approached Iranja, you could see how amazingly crystal clear, aqua blue the water was, it was beautiful, I’ve never seen sea water quite that intensely blue before!

I was on camp duty today, but was feeling pretty ill with a classic case of the camp shits. So I just mostly stayed in the hammock all day with many trips up to the long drop definitely the worst day yet, started to feel my first proper feelings of homesickness and just didn’t have the energy for anything. Hopefully this will pass soon.”

I felt so alone as I discussed medical options with a nurse, simultaneously firing off texts to my partner trying to organise logistics of him picking me up. That hug when he saw me was the purest embrace I’ve ever known. Protection, love, mutual pain. Though we were walking next to each other to the car, he was carrying me home.”
